Korean giant Samsung has shown off a prototype of its new 40in OLED screen, claimed to be the largest in the world. At its unveiling at the FPD International Samsung actually went as far as to say it is the largest size possible.
The panel delivers Full HD 1920x1080 resolution with a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, colour gamut of 107 per cent NTSC and a luminance of 200cd/m2, peaking at 600cd/m2.
Samsung comments that its low temperature poly-Si TFT mass production line cannot make panels larger than 31in, noting that 'This 40in TFT panel is the largest size that can be made on our pilot line, and it cannot be mass produced right away'.
Make's the 11-inchers from the likes of Sony look a little puny.
