With DVD-A and SACD flailing helplessly in the music markets, Sony has unveiled a new CD format in the familiar-sounding shape of Blu-spec, clearly inspired and intrinsically linked to its increasingly popular Blu-ray video format.

First announced in Japan, the technology takes advantage of Sony's established Blu-ray Disc expertise to press new high quality discs that somehow maintain compatibility with traditional red-laser CD spinners.
