Maybe the Victor Company of Japan's boffins have too much time to spare since sounding the death knoll of the video player. At least that's what you'd hope, judging from the company's latest foray into the unusual, with the launch of its preposterous Sound Garden 'Kirikabu' speaker.

On show at the Designer's Week exhibition in Tokyo, the Kirikabu is a multidirectional speaker with left and right channel stereo speakers and a woofer, powered by an internal amplifier. With a plant on top. Available individually, they can also be linked together to form a larger and plantier system.

In black and white, it's not clear if the plants are sold separately. But one thing's for sure, watering them will be a risky affair.
