LG Scarlet LG80 LCD TV
LG's fast-expanding Scarlet series can add a new arrival to the family album today with the launch of the LG80 LCD TV. The new set, promising 'superb sound and unparalleled picture quality', has been bestowed with hidden speakers that slide out automatically when the set is turned on. Now we're not usually given to appreciating cheap tricks and gimmickry, but that does sound pretty nifty.
LG even admits as much, commenting the feature 'adds a bit more excitement' to the viewing process, although incidentally it does apparently aid the Mark Levinson tuned sonics in delivering a fully-incorporated 3.1-channel surround sound system, punting out 50 watts of oomph. The centre channel too is hidden, with a dedicated woofer rear mounted to keep things tidy.
Image playback is Full HD 1080p with 30,000:1 contrast ratio and a trio of AV modes. Two HDMIs and a USB 2.0 take care of most immediate connection concerns. One problem though - there's little clue as to whether it will even make it into the UK, with the press info stating that it will be available from October in all markets except North America and Europe for an as yet undisclosed amount.
That's not something you see every day.
